  • "Boss gave out my personal phone number without permission"

Hi there! This is my first post on Reddit so please excuse any weird formatting... I've been asking for advice. on this situation but thought I'd receive some productive answers here too!
  • For context, I (24F) work at small- medium (around 40 self-catering lodges with an events space) venue/hospitality business as a marketing assistant.
  • This is my first job in marketing, likely my last, but it's something that I consider sort of within my general remit as a design grad with freelancing history.
  • For EXTRA context, I initially rejected this position after this interview after realising that it was a marketing MANAGER role and I likely wasn't the best-equipped for the position, they'd need someone with more experience, thanks for seeing my ambition, if there's any junior positions let me know, etc etc.
  • On the spot, I'm offered a junior position so I accept - I'm only now realising I'm working the original role but without any guidance or pay increase!
  • I'm absolutely freewheeling it. Here's where my issue has arised. We're a very small team with only around 5 of us in the office so some given business practices are, basically, out the window...
  • My boss, the company owner, is working with some external Ad/digital marketing firms to improve the company's SEO/web presence outside of my (fairly limited) expertise.
  • I've found out today that he's given my personal mobile phone number to some random blook out an analytics company so we could 'work together' on some upcoming website changes.
  • A male manager uses his cellphone in the middle of a meeting.
  • I'm really not happy. Work-related or not, this is my own personal data being shared with a stranger without my prior knowledge or consent.
  • Maybe as a young woman I'm just extra vigilant about these things but as you can tell, I'm far from happy here.
  • Has anyone experienced anything similar? Is it serious enough to be considered a GDPR breach? I'm open to all answers/help!
  • rlpinca If he gave your number to his buddy, that's inappropriate. If he gave your number to someone for work purposes, that's very common and acceptable.
  • OP AdeptnessImaginary25 I don't have an issue with getting in touch with external guys for work-related purposes, it's more so the fact he's given away MY own phone number to some dude from another company without any prior warning or permission. There's an office number that'd be more than appropriate My colleagues all agree that if I were to do the same with his number, he'd be (rightfully) furious, as would they. Since I'm on minium wage as well I have a total aversion to the idea of ANY out
  • nedwasatool Does your company provide you with a desk phone? Do you have a company email address?
  • OP AdeptnessImaginary25 Yes to both! I'd be more than happy to use them to work with this guy and they're what I've been using so far I only really use my personal phone at work for posting on our socials n that kinda thing
  • Small_impaler Depending on your state, you may be entitled to reimbursement for a percentage of your phone bill
  • whyamiawaketho Still inappropriate. OP has an office phone. Absolutely zero reason for an employer to give out personal phone numbers.
